SAVE PINE RIDGE

"Madness doesn’t always scream; sometimes it organizes, repeats itself, and calls itself conviction."

This refers to the normalization of extreme, irrational, or dangerous ideas. When fanaticism is organized and repetitive, it begins to look like reasoned belief. It gains legitimacy by simply being persistent and organized.

Q&A with Cliff Kwitowski

Q: How do you feel about the golf course?Cliff: I think a golf course is great. I think having a restaurant with a bar and being able to grab a bite to eat or a drink inside our community was great. I wish we still had that. Unfortunately, there is no longer a golf course, or a restaurant, or a bar within Pine Ridge.
Q: Do you feel we should spend the communities maintenance fees using litigation to acquire the property to build our own golf course?Cliff: Absolutely not. I bought in Pine Ridge because the HOA was not liable for the cost of a golf course. I don’t believe that should change. Plus, we don’t own the property.
Q: Do you agree we should stop a developer from building homes within Pine Ridge?Cliff: That is not within the purview of the board or its members. We cannot interfere with any builders building homes within Pine Ridge. We can only hold them to zoning, to our HOA restrictions, and to what our overlay allows. The same would go for the former golf course property. Pine Ridge never owned the property. If the law is followed, zoning is followed, building guidelines are followed, and approval from the Citrus County commissioners is given, there is really nothing we can do to interfere with the owner of the property.
Q: Do you agree with filing an appeal with the county commissioners?Cliff: Not really. But what is done is done. We now have to wait for that decision to see how to proceed. Everyone needs to understand that this appeal is currently costing this community lawyer fees during the process. There is a legal defense that is currently arguing the appeal.
Q: If we win the appeal, would we continue to litigate against DIX Development?Cliff: With that decision, it would give us a much better negotiating stance. We would negotiate with Mr. Dicks for a resolution to the years of litigation. Not to continue to litigate.
Q: If we lose the appeal, would you continue to litigate against DIX Development?Cliff: Litigation would no longer be necessary. At that point, it would prove that he had done everything proper, and the county commissioners have done everything proper. Any more ligation would be just throwing more money after bad litigation.
Q: Is there anything we could do regarding the former golf course property?Cliff: Mr. Dicks wants a settlement on the Amber Ridge property. Pine Ridge can use that to leverage a deal. However, acquisition of property requires community approval. Adding property would change the Pine Ridge Estates overlay and would definetly be a legal matter. No backroom deals, working with consultants, acting as partners, to acquire the property, without transparency to the community. Q: What would you do regarding Tree Preservation.Cliff: Clear cutting is not allowed. The Tree Preservation Zone will help to preserve the easement. Our goal should always include educating builders to make sure they understand our desires and to help make better decisions than to clear cut a lot like they did with the church Property
